Hola,
I am absolutely clueless as to what I should be looking (except that I know 16x is pretty much the standard) for and what brand(s) provide the best tech support and software? Please, if anyone can help me, thanks:)

Notably popular drives on the market today are the Pioneers. I've also heard good things about Asus' drives as well as Sony's.

Have you considered consulting a professional purchasing agent for advice?

Lite-on Retail = $38 or ASUS Retail = $49 (USD) at www.newegg.com. Newegg's service, prices, and delivery times make this (TO ME) the best on-line company, PERIOD.

Good luck.
