Any observations or experience with this? They claim 50-80 wpm using their
system (compared to 15-30 wpm using graffiti).
here's web reference if you are curious:

The program works as advertised, caused me no problems when I tried it.
I prefer Graffitti.
You either love it or hate it. It is a personal preference.
It's like asking someone else if you should eat chocolate or vanilla ice
cream.

Take a look at quicktype
http://quicktype.sourceforge.net
It's free. I stopped using graffiti now. The best part is that
you can tap and flick on a letter and use this as a shortcut for words
such as "and" "the" etc...read the instructions - its straight forward.
AND you can still use graffiti if you like as it doesn't prevent
graffitti from being used.
the only finicky part is making the overlay.
My method:
Print overlay on a piece of scotch 811 tape. Cut out overlay and stick
on graffiti area - then cover entire screen with writeright screen
protector.

I tried this long ago and went back to graffiti as I found it easier. And no I don't

It appeared to be a like or dislike sort of thing, but I am drawn by
their claims of speed. There are times that I keep notes during
meetings and such and would like a faster method. I figured I would

My main objection is you must look at the screen to type/gesture. With
Graffitti I take notes without looking at the screen, correction the few
mistakes after the meeting.

The last time I tried FitalyStamp was about 4 years ago on my Visor Platinum, and I
did have their stick-on stamp.
In addition to my previous comments the Fitaly is optimized for European languages,
and not for the US.
I now use TealScript (OS5) and occassionally use TextPlus.

I hope you try it and after a few weeks you can tell us if it meets the speed claims.
They had a phony contest one time where you practiced a sentence. People got very
fast at entering the specific sentence, but for general entry I never did get fast
and it always seemed to require more concentration.

I'm a big fan, Scott. I'm now using Fitaly Virtual on a Sony Clie TH55,
and it's absolutely fabulous. On my old T615, I've used Fitaly Stamp,
and the experience was much the same. I can't speak to speed ratings,
but with minimal practice, it's much easier (for me, at any rate) to
enter lots of text with FS or FV than it would be if using Graffiti.
BTW, someone mentioned that a drifting digitizer would be a problem.
Not necessarily so, since FS and FV allow adjusting the mapping of the
Fitaly overlay to the digitizer.
Good luck.

I've not done a speed test, but I'm very good at Graffiti, and
input is much, much faster with Fitaly. I used the on-screen
version for monochrome devices (now free) for years on my visor,
and when I got my Zire 71 one of the first things I did was buy
the stamp. It's a little like learning to type: you have to
practice until you're familiar with the layout before you can
appreciate how fast it can be. Someone who would rather write by
hand than learn to touch-type might not like it. It's easier on
the display than Graffiti. It provides quick app selection and
customizable keys and strokes. And you can go back to Graffiti
with a single tap. It's one of those apps that I couldn't live
without.

I found it very interesting to read the various reactions to Fitaly. I
disagree with the person who does not believe it is optimized for
English.
I have had Fitaly Stamp on my m500 and its predecessor for several
years. I never became a speed demon on it; just didn't want to put in
that much drill. But, I measure my speed a 22 wpm, a speed I can't
match with graffiti. To put this in context, I can easily do 70 wpm on
a keyboard. Let me put it this way: I have two keyboards for the Palm,
the thin one with only three rows of keys, but which has the advantage
that I can use it on my lap, and the folding one that is a full keyboard
but must be used on a flat surface. I use the Palm as a note taker at
meetings, while all my colleagues use lap tops and have to find a place
to plug in their extension cords. Well, there was one session of a
conference with only auditorium seating and this was before I had
purchased the three-row keyboard. I took copious notes via Fitaly Stamp
and felt comfortable doing it. No way would I have written that much
material using graffiti.

Will the "stamp" version work on an extensible Palm, e.g. the

How do you figure? It can enter non-English characters, but you have
to specifically tell it to.

Considering that they show it on a Tungsten|T on their site, I think
it's safe to assume it works there. I very much doubt that the
clearance between the slider and the screen is so tight that you can't
put a screen protector on it.

I believe Fitaly was developed by Benc (a Croatian) and Jean Ichbiah. It has a few
years now since I used it, but I recall if I wanted a common special character I
invoked a soft keyboard that was inundated by European accented characters and had to
search for my character among the mess that I never used.
I suggested to Jean Ichbiach that the soft keyboards be customizable but he was firm
that all keyboards including the soft keyboards be fixed. And the soft keyboards were
dominated by European characters, whether you ever used them or not.

A bit more history...
The concepts behind Fitaly were invented by Jean Ichbiah. He also led the team
at Honeywell Bull that developed ADA. (there were three competing teams; his
team won)
The first implementation of Fitaly on the Palm was written by Ed Keyes, who also
wrote Hackmaster. (Jean' son wrote the PocketPC version, btw; I think he also
did the Windows version, but Jean might've written that himself.)
Ed got too busy to continue working on Fitaly, and I took over from him. I
wrote Fitaly version 2, FitalyStamp, and FitalyVirtual.
At one point I also got too busy to continue it, and Bozidar Benc took over from
me. After a while Bozidar turned it back over to me again, as he was busy with
some other projects. Unfortunately, Bozidar was killed in a car accident
earlier this year.
I've continued working with Jean on both Fitaly and other software for Palm OS.

(background info...)
The Kyocera's unusual in that it has two digitizers; one for the normal screen
area and a *different* one for the Graffiti area. (the Kyocera 7135's a
clamshell design cellphone; the display on the upper half, the Graffiti area on
the lower half)
If I remember right, Fitaly interferes with the calibration process; it's best
to turn Fitaly off when you calibrate the Kyocera, then turn Fitaly on again and
do the Fitaly calibration (in the Fitaly 'i' menu).
Yeah, I agree... it needs some improvement...

Actually, Fitaly is optimized for English. It's close to optimized for
European languages (enough so that it's not worth reorganizing the keyboard
Specifically for French, Spanish, etc) - I don't remember the actual numbers,
but it's a small difference.
Fitaly has changed a *lot* since 4 years ago - I don't remember what things were
added when, but things like:
- slide for capitals (rather than tap 'shift' then tap letter)
- sliding for phrases (like Palm's shortcuts)
- application bar (configure it for frequently-used apps; saves going to
launcher)
- most-recently-used apps list
- single stroke to switch to the last app (switch back and forth between
apps...)
Might be worth taking another look.

(btw, I work on Fitaly - I guess I'm not unbiased...

Yes, I realize that. The problem is that the Fitaly overlay hides the
spots used by the digitizer calibration. If the overlay is slightly
skewed physically, calibration can "fix" it so that the digitizer will
look for the skewed input... but only if the calibration taps are in
the right places.
Since there are no calibration marks, I have to guess which makes
matters worse. Removing the overlay to calibrate is no good, because
when I reapply a new one it's skewed and does not line up right.
Lather, rinse, repeat.

Yeah, I've seen it. That's what customer support sent me.
Actually, at this point I have no idea where my remaining overlays are.
Since I effectively cannot use the software until I can get overlays
with calibration marks on them, it's no big loss.
If/when such are available, is it possible to order just the overlays?
I just took a look at the orders page and it looks like the only way to
order refills is with a purchase of the software, which I already own.
