Dual DDR400MHz question

I've got a A7N8X motherboard with an AMD 2100+ and TwinMOS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 256MB.

Having 256Mb RAM ain't cutting it so I need more. Not to mention that just one RAM doesn't fill the motherboards potential.

So I want more RAM and before I buy it I want to check with you guys.

I'm assuming that buying another TwinMOS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 256MB won't be a problem. (install it on slot 0 and 2 or just 0 and 1? - does it matter?).

BUT - what if I buy a TwinMOS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 512MB?
Will that work?

Thanks for any info!

Not a problem. One memory module in the offset memory slot and the other in either of the two remaining slots. The result: 512MB in Dual DDR and 512MB of total memory capacity.

It will work. However, you won't have the full amount in Dual DDR. You'll have 512MB in Dual DDR - the lowest common density across the two channels times two - and 256MB+512MB of total memory capacity.

I agree with that solution ... because it is a logical one.

I didn't quite understand your last comment.
If I buy a 512-module and activate the dual ddr in BIOS - will I only have 512Mb total then? (with a 256 and a 512 module).

Bonus question ;) - How will three 256-modules work with dual ddr?

* Dual DDR is automatically enabled. Cannot be enabled/disabled via BIOS.

* You'll have 768MB total but 512MB of it will be addressed in Dual DDR mode and 256MB of it will be addressed in normal mode.

768MB total. 512MB in Dual DDR mode and 256MB in normal mode.
