I put a Gb of Corsair TwinXX(or whatever they call it) memory on my new Asus A7N8X Delux board. How do I tell if its running in dual channel mode (they're in slots 2 and 3)?

Also, when I start my pc, during the POST it says my ram is running at 200Mhz, that number gets doubled right? That 200 is really 400Mhz because its DDRam correct?

One last thing, I have an Athlon XP 3000 on that mobo, which has a 333Mzh FSB, should I set the ram to run at 166Mhz so it runs in sync with the FSB?

There's no way to check if it's actually running in Dual Channel mode. You just have to make sure the memory sticks are in the right slots, and then assume they're running Dual Channel.

Yes. The clock is 200MHz, and that'll be 400 DDR.

Yes, running the memory in sync with the processor increases the system performance.

Like you said, you could lower the memory clock to 166MHz. Alternatively, you could raise the CPU's FSB to 200MHz (and lower the multiplier accordingly if you don't want to overclock your procssor).

I think (I'm not sure!) that your FSB is set to 166MHz and hemultiplier is set to 14.5? If you raise the FSB to 200MHz you would lower the multiplier to 11.5 or 12. Check this with people who ARE sure first!

If memory is in both channels, Dual DDR is in effect. Put one memory module in the offset memory slot and the other in either of the two remaining slots.

for one of my systems w/ epox mobo, it says when it POSTS "dual channel enabled", though it's REALLY REALLY quick Post so you have to watch for it.

You will see on the mem that there is 1 mem slot and 2 mem slot spaced away from the first mem slot. you put one on the single "bank", and put another one on the second "bank". SO, since there are DIMM 1,2,3 (2&3 being on one bank) just put it in either DIMM 1,2 or DIMM 1,3. I found that DIMM 1,3 resulted in slightly better SANDRA benches.

Go download Sisoft Sandra Benchmarks, and run the mem test/benchmark. You should get close to 3000Mb/s, but I can only get ~2900 since my mem is at 190 (OC'd PC3000)

Update your BIOS to rev1004 then you'll get the memory channel indicator message during POST. And in simple term DDR400 do mean 2x200MHz. For people who do not overclock it is highly recommended to run 166/166 in sync.

It is morally wrong to allow suckers to keep their money

Well i tried 2 different configuration and wasted like 2 hour of bios setting trying to see if my memory would be faster with sysoft sandra also i no need to tell i had to clear the cmos like 15 time

my system
a7n8x
amd athlon 2800+ at FSB 333
2x256 meg golden dragon ultra dual channel at 400 mhz

- i Was wondering if changing my frequency at 166 mhz instead of 200 could be faster and i noticed on sysoft sandra the score was was the same
i got a score of 2900 when the memory was at 200 mhz so 400 mhz and then i tried to put it at 166 to have it in sync with my FSB 333 cause 2800 is 333 and i noticed on sysoft sandra the resul was the same

i think windows probably put it at 166 even if the bios say its 200 cause windows professionnel just rock

* In terms of memory performance, sync FSB/MCLK is better than async FSB/MCLK. Running FSB/MCLK in sync eliminates the overhead resynchronization penalty that would occur if the FSB/MCLK frequencies were set async.

* I'm not sure of your current method, but there may be a way to clear the CMOS by holding down the insert key and starting/restarting the computer.
