I've built a ton of computers in my day, but the last one I built was an Athlon 1.1 ghz with 512 pc133 ram.

I'm building a new one here soon, and I've got a few ddr questions, since I've never used it before.

I've read that if I have a 2600+ cpu with 333 fsb that pc2700 333 ram would run better than 400mhz ram, is this right?

And is there a performance advantage to having 2 256 sticks of ram versus having 1 512 stick?

Sorry for the incredibly newbie questions, but this stuff is too expensive to play with going blind

Thanks

It's all good ^_^

For a DDRSDRAM setup it is basically the same as a EDO, FPM, or SDR-SDRAM where one stick is better than two.

The only change is if you are using a dual memory channel board where you will do better with two paired modules. That is like when there were hardwired interleaved boards and you eed paired memory.

And for either, dual or single channel. Stay at the same frequency as the FSB. So if you are using a AMD 2600+ at 333MHz FSB... use DDR333/PC2700.

Thanks, I really appreciate the info

For the time being, I'm going with the twinx 2700ll Corsair ram, because the single stick of 512 doesn't work with the a7n8x (according to a lot of forums anyway)

It's all good ^_^
