I have a couple of questions that I am trying answer about laptops. I am primarily looking for advice from those that have experience with this situation.

Strait to the point:

Opinions/experience with using a Go 7800 GTX for CAD work verses a Quadro FX Go 1400. I am also looking for opinions/experience for using the Quadro FX Go 1400 for games.

****I do know the difference between the cards and the applications that they are designed for, but I am wondering which card would be better suited to fill both rolls from user’s personal experience. ****

More details:

I am in the market for a laptop that I am going to use mainly for CAD programs at work, but would also like to take this laptop to Million Man LAN when I go this year. I need the mobility of a laptop to take out into the field and on business trips, but I also need the power of a desktop so that I am not waiting all day for my Solidworks assemblies to rotate.

The question that I can't seem to find the answer to is about the graphics card. After some looking, there are two cards available to fill the rolls that I defined, CAD and gaming. The nVIDIA Quadro FX Go 1400 and the nVIDIA GeForce Go 7800 GTX respectively.

I was wondering if any users have had the chance to evaluate the performance of a laptop running a 7800 vs a 1400 in a CAD environment? I know that the gaming experience of the 7800 is going to be far superior to that of the 1400, but I don’t have a good feel for the CAD performance. I mainly work in Solidworks, so that is the program that I am most interested in.

Does anyone have the personal experience running Solidworks on both of these setups? If so, can you please enlighten me with your opinion and advice?

Thanks!
