I've got Digital Performer 4.52 running under OS 10.3.8.
I've been experimenting with my new audio interface, an M-Audio Firewire
410.
I'm noticing occasional static or clicks during playback. It seems they are
being recorded that way, though they aren't present at the time of recording
(i.e. it's not a bad patch cable into the interface). This happens even with
only a single track, and it might be worse when recording at 96k/24bit.
I've watched the performance monitor, but nothing seems to be choking
(screen update is fairly slow, though).
Presumably, my Mac just isn't capable in some way. Here are my specs; please
tell me where my money can best be spent:
Mac G4 Quicksilver, single 733 MHz, 768 MB RAM, 80GB disk on stock ATA/100
bus.
What would help the most?
1) More RAM?
2) Upgrade to dual-processor?
3) Get ATA/133 card and RAID stripe two disks?
4) Other?
Since I'm just a hobbyist, I can't really justify a G5 tower. Hopefully I
can throw $300 at it to make it usable.
