audigy vs audigy 2

The audigy 2 is a lot more expensive than the audigy. I don't need ultimate sound quality for this solution. What more do I get with the audigy 2?

The audigy 2 is supposed to handle EAX better then the audigy 1. Also the audigy 2 supports Dolby 6.1 and is THX certifed. If any of that matters to you.

Audigy 2 also uses less CPU time in games than Audigy does. This translates to smoother gameplay when high-quality sound is turned on. And, yes, Audigy 2 handles EAX better than Audigy, but I wouldn't say it's really noticeable...

In addition to the others, I'd have to say that it's the difference between a GeForce 5200 and an ATI 9700 Pro. The 9700 Pro does it better, does it faster, but costs more. It matters on your priorities. Look at the Creative website, and at some reviews floating around cyberspace about Audigy2 reviews (as they almost always have comparisons to the Audigy1 as well).

The Audigy 2 has much better DAC's (digital to analog converter) than the Audigy, which results in just plain better sound <b><i>if</i></b> you have a high quality speaker system. If you don't have good speakers then I think anything more than a Sounblaster Live! is a waste of money.

But that's just me...
