I installed 6 GB ram in win 7 pro but it only showes 3.18GB

I am using HP pavilion 2050 ix and installed windows 7 with 6 GB of ram but it shows only 2.99 (usable) ram.

Did you install the x64 version of Windows 7? It sounds like you installed the 32bit version, which will only recognize about 3GB of RAM.

Does you system have the 32bit version (x86) or the 64 bit version (x64) of Windows 7? If it has the 32bit version then you will not see more memory than what you already see. The limit for 32bit operating systems is 4GB but some of this memory is reserved by the system's devices that is why you see less than 4. To see all 6GB you will have to install Windows 7 x64.

Did you install extra ram yourself? If you did then make sure thst you put it in properly. If you didnt then make sure the its properly in and if it is then that means your RAM or MOBO is defective. could try maybe getting some RAM to replace what you have now after your troubleshooted it.

No need to go this far, just hit properties on "My Computer" and it will tell you what version you have.
