I have no idea what started it, but now, when I try to play counter-strike online, my network dies.
I load up either GameSpy Arcade or just CS itself. When I try to download a list of servers, nothing happens. Moreover, when I give up, my internet connection doesn't work...I have to go physically unplug the router, then plug it back in to restore internet connectivity.
This sucks.
Any ideas as to what the heck is going on? My setup is that I have @home cable service hooked up to a linksys 4-port router. I used to be able to successfully play CS with this setup; Then this problem started and I haven't been able to play for about 2 weeks.
Counter-Strike/Gamespy are really the only apps that kill my network like this...but I really need my CS fix!
Hey Bunny,
Excuse me if I'm off on a tangent, but when I play CS, I just go into the WON network automatically, no probs. I am using a similar setup as you, with the Linksys 4sw with a Toshiba modem and two computers. I have been experiencing no probs with this setup so far this month.
Hope this helps some.

Has this ever happened w/o playing CS? Do you try to play CS alot?
I think it might be that the Cable company changes some settings on you, and that you have to restart the LInksys to access the Internet?
Heres what you should do:
Make a table of your IP address and subnet mask.
Then, go try to play. If it doesn't work, restart the router and record your IP address and subnet mask.
Other than that, I don't know.
BTW, can anyone ping, tracert or http: www.lfay.net? (Not a hoax/virus thing, I just need some help).

I log into WON and see that there are, say, 12000 servers.
Slowly, I will start to 'download' each server. After a few minutes I will cancel, and from the perhaps 2000 servers I have chosen I will try to join.
At this point the game just stops. Eventually I have to alt-ctrl-del out. Now, my network doesn't work. I have to unplug the router, then plug it back in to restore proper functioning.
The crazy thing is that I have been using this setup for ~a month and a half now. The first month it worked just fine. Now it doesn't work at all, much to my frustration.

You can also try using a looking glass like http://www.ebone.net/cgi-bin/lg/nph-lg.cgi for example. Just do a search on looking glass and you can find some more.
For the router issue, have you checked to see if there are are any firmware updates. There may be an up date to fix this issue.
Thanks for the feedback. This problem is really pissing me off. nic-c2-082.mw.mediaone.net [24.131.2.82] is very close to me, within 2 hops I think. I'm not sure whats happening

I don't think your problem is nic-c2-082.mw.mediaone.net
Trafic makes it there. It looks like the problem is after that. May have been blackholed, down who knows.
The problem *should* have been taken care of... www.lfay.net should be both pingable and http: able. The problem was that the router was blocking WAN requests. I tested pings with a looking glass; it was succesful.

Sorry didn't catch your reply till now, but I must ask an obvious question, do you have your filters and game selection stuff set up right? Like in your command line of the properties of the exec icon?
Sorry if very basic
