I've only found two firewire audio interfaces that explicitly support
chaining - the MOTU 896 and the M-audio 410. Any others that I missed? I
might like to daisy chain more than one interface.

The MOTU 828 mkII (and the new Traveler) also supports this. I believe
you may even mix the different MOTU interfaces in the same chain.

Along these lines, I already own an 896 but wanted to add a Firepod -
any danger or problem in mixing manufacturers? I like the fact that
the Firepod has XLRs on the front of the unit, tho I like the 896 as
well and hope they'll talk to each other or at least work side by
side....

are you using mac OS x 4??
it allows you to use any firewire devices, mix and match any and all,
it sees them as aggregate devices

People are chaining Metric Halo MIO's and ULN2's. And Kurt's RME seemed
stable with my MIO 2882+DSP box, adding 8 analog IO's.

Thanks, guys. I also found the new mackie interface. Right now I'm attracted
to the MOTU unit, because of it's facility as a standalone - even after it
becomes obsolete as a DAW interface.

The MOTO 828 also supports chaining.

I think you can pretty much chain any firewire MOTU however you like. I
know that the 828 is well supported, but look on Motu's website and
they talk about chaining in most of their interfaces. I think you need
to synchronise more than 2 though, if the chain gets big. I'm not sure
if you could used different interfaces in combination with each other,
but possibly. Using Audiodesk or DP setting up would probably be easy,
but maybe not so with other software.
