Transfering Files

Hello, about a month ago I reformatted my computer, before the reformat I used a cat se plus patch cable.. I was told that only a crossover cable can do what I did. The thing being though is I do this everytime to transfer files.. but now I can't seem to get my computer to detect the other computer. It's actually labeled as a unidentified network. I've tried to bridge the connections and so on.. No change.. Id normally transfer through the router if its little stuff.. but this is 55gigs of music, pictures and so on. Anyone have any suggestions?

do you have a external case to put the drive that got all your stuff on and plug it to the new system as second drive in usb or esata so you will be able to transfert everything

I do, but I'm trying to figure out why I can't transfer with my cable anymore? I dont understand why it doesnt work anymore.
