Changing CAS latency safe?

Hi, I'm wondering if it can really wreck anything if I try changing the CAS latency of my Samsung pc3200 ram? It's currently at 3, and I just want to try it at 2.5. Is there a chance that this will wreck the ram? Or will it just reboot so I can change it back? I really don't want to wreck stuff. And if it is safe, does anyone have suggestions for some of the other memory settings? I'm running a 2500+ Barton on an Asus A7N8X. Thanks.

Run it at 2.5. Samsung will work there. If that works fine, crank it up to 2. The worst that will happen is that it won't boot correctly and you'll have to reset the BIOS.

Changing CAS latency doesn't even regard as overclocking, it just a tweaking, so you'll be fine. But somehow some RAM don't like to change the CAS latency, for example, my PC2700 RAM work best under 2-3-3-6; 2.5-3-3-7 makes my overlcocking easier but when I set to 3-4-4-8 these baby just won't POST even the clock frequency is very low, like 133MHz. Now I'm running 174MHz at 2.5-3-3-7.

Same here i tried to change the memory timming on my friend's P4C800 and it would'nt boot. BUt no harm juste have too wait a few second so the safety goes off and let yoyu boot your computer again. It might not work but you wont harm your system so its pretty safe.

I've got my system stable at 175MHz now, memory timing 2.5-3-3-7. I'll try 177~180MHz later, I have to upvolt the Vcore to 1.6750V with CHIP Volate control +1.6V, and DDR voltage to 2.7V. But I still can't change the timing other than 2-3-3-6, 2-3-3-7, 2.5-3-3-6, and 2.5-3-3-7, but what the heck? All my benchmark shows that at 2.5-3-3-7 is better than 2-3-3-6...
