Help! I just reinstalled my Age of Empires and Age of
Conquerers games onto a new hard drive with a fresh
install of XP home. I've done this before with no
problems but this time, as soon as I start a game...any
game, multi or single player...the map view immediately
just scrolls up to the top of the screen. It's
unplayable. No matter where I click on the map, it
instantly starts scrolling up to the top and sticks
there.

Yes, I've reinstalled several times, both the AOC game
and also the AOE2 game. They both are doing the same
thing. I've updated my video drivers, reinstalled my
mouse, and tried everything else I know to do but I'm
clueless. Anybody have any helpful hints?

Thanks!

Jeff

Sounds like a stuck scroll wheel or other mouse related item. Check & clean
your mouse and reboot.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have an optical mouse which
works perfectly in every other game and/or application I
have, there's nothing to clean and the wheel functions
properly. I have searched the AOK online forums
extensively for similar issues and this reported a couple
of other times, but one guy was lucky enough that a
reinstall of the game solved his issues and the other
thread just died without resolution.

I have no doubt this is some kind of stupid game bug or
glitch and not the mouse. The scrolling happens the
instant the game begins before I can even use the mouse.
Any other ideas?

Well, just to make 100% certain I bought and installed a new Logitech optical mouse. Same results. I also blew $30 on a brand new copy of AOE II Gold Edition, and reinstalled the game(s) using the new discs. Same results.

If anyone has any other suggestions I'll be glad to try them. Man, I hate to think about reformatting and reinstalling windows only to find out that it still does this. :(

Thanks

Jeff

Solved! Somehow it was conflicting with a hardware monitoring program that came with my Abit motherboard called AbitEQ. I uninstalled it and everything is fine. Hope this helps someone else...

Nice one Jeff -- I too had the same problem, disabled ABit EQ and voila! no
worries.

But what a WEIRD interaction!
