I got the ua-25 but based on posts here, it seems there's some question
as to whether you can use the Ua-25 in 'advanced' mode (i.e. 24 bit)
with Adobe. Adobe doesn't support ASIO and it seems that in 24 bit, the
ua-25 may only be able to use asio compatible systems. Does anyone have
a definitive answer to this?

I'm no expert (at anything really) but I recorded 2 small clips, one
with the advanced switch on, and one off and the file size was the same
leading me to believe there is a problem. (Changing Adobe's setting
from 32 bit to 16 bit did yield a file that was half in size - though
I'm not sure what that implies).

Audition can record in 32 bit float mode and you can then save the file as
16 bit, 24 bit, 32 bit or other formats if you click on OPTIONS before
saving. Whether recording in 32 bit float takes full advantage of the 24
bit signal coming in I don't know. Arny, do you know?

I wrote Edirol. I was surprised they responded. Here's what they said:

Question We purchased the ua-25 to use with Adobe Audition. Adobe does
not support asio. Is it true that we cannot use the advance switch (24
bit) in Adobe b/c they have no asio support?

Answer Greetings,

You should you use your UA-25 in Advanced mode. It will support 24-bit
sound in this mode. If your goal is to record high-quality, low-latency
audio, you may want to consider a more robust recording program, such
as Cakewalk, Peak, Storm or Cubase.

Best Regards,
Edirol Corporation

----so they seem to think it works. I'm not sure I understand they're
beef with Adobe though.

I think They are saying Audition is not as good for precise multitasking.
Latency is an issue if you are trying to play perfectly in sync with
existing tracks. If not, Audition is probably just fine. the reference to
robust is curious. I have no idea what your application is.
