I'm looking at a Blue Mouse mic - locally/used. Seems in overall good shape,
but at one time it was knocked over and took a blow to the right side arm.
The arm's bent in a bit, which is fixable, but I'd like to know what the
potential is for damage to have occured to the capsule. If there is no
apparent problem with function/sound now, is it at all likely that down the
road I might have trouble? The price is really good but of course, it's no
bargain at all if it will give me trouble later on.
Yes - a synthetic part could have been slightly fractured, so a problem
could show up later - could be in a week, could be in a year, could be in a
decade.
Could be a minor problem (capsule mount part) could be much worse (clamp
ring).
Also, damage to the PCB could have occured.
Like you said, if you take into account a potentially heavy repair bill, the
"good price" you were given might start to look a bit high...
If I buy a busted mic, I buy it for peanuts or the deal is off - since I
know how to rebuild the electronics myself and I don't mind having the
capsule rebuilt or replaced.
But I'm weird...
