I just read this and thought at least a few of you would be interest to read this...

doesn't say much about the Quality... still like to know that one...

Andy Gipetti writes:

I recently purchased a new 23" Apple display at the Grove Apple store in LA.

Though it is a beautiful display, it has a lot of short comings for the money it cost. I have not seen any one else talk about these issues yet so I thought I would share them with you.

The HEAT issue is the number one problem with the display. The top aluminum bezel of the display gets hotter then my 12" PowerBook (and that's hot). I can not even touch the top after awhile.

This will probably be Apples first design change. It needs air vents very badly like most other large displays have on the market.

Second, the power cable to the power brick is too short. You must keep the power supply brick on your desk next to the display cause the power cable is not long enough to go to the floor.

This power brick is an ugly white color that does not match the display at all (poor design by Apple).

Third, the display only pivots up & down. Again, every display on the market gives you left/right & up/down movement of their display so you can be comfortable in front of your LCD.

Fourth, and the least important issue is the placement of the USB & Firewire ports. If these ports were located in the center back instead of the right, all cables could be neatly hidden by the stand, just like the power cable is hidden. Instead, if you connect cables to these ports they fall right in front of the keyboard making a mess on my desk.
Seems rather strange... Apple of all companies making/selling a product like this? doesn't seem right does it?

Those shortcomings don't bother me so much really. What I really want to know is if there were any dead pixels and hoe the image quality was. How were the colors and what's the gaming performance like?

The heat issue could be troubling though. Maybe I could get out my drill and make a few vent holes. Pretty soon we'll be strapping fans on to our high performance monitors too.

I just recently purchased this exact monitor and I must say I think the person who wrote the negative review has no idea what he is talking about.

The heat is not a problem at all. I have left the the monitor on for over a day and the top has been warm to the touch, but not hot.

Second, the cord that runs from the back of the monitor contains the power cord TO the power block, and the USB and firewire cables. It is at least 5 feet long. The cord that runs from the block to the wall or surge protector is about 4 feet long. I fail to see any situation in which the block must sit on your desk. Also, the power block IS white, but matches the sides of the monitor. It should be out of sight anyway, with it's long cords. In my opinion, however, it is not ugly at all.

The display needs no left/right pivot as it is so light and the stand so small that it acts like a pivot anyway. With one finger I can easily swing it 90 degrees left or right.

Fourth, you can still easily thread the cables so they go through the stand and out the back instead of on your desk.

It honestly seems as if Andy Gipetti reviewed a different monitor. Maybe Apple made some changes since then?

Overall I am very happy with the display. I have found no downsides, but I have not played any shooters on it yet. If you have any questions I will try and answer them.
