I am working on my dads old sony laptop (FX190), and replaced the thermal pad with artic silver 5 while I had it opened up. After doing this, I noticed that when you boot the laptop the cpu fan spins up, then stops. Is this some kind of power saving feature? I have done alot of desktop work in the past, but this is the first time I've really messed with a laptop, so I wasnt sure if this is a normal function, or if there is something wrong with the heatsink/fan combo. Any help you guys can give me would be much appreciated
At first glance I'd say it is normal. My Dell Inspiron 8500's fan does that too. I'd boot it up, the fan would go on for a sec or 2, then stops, starting again when I launch programs. So I'd say it's normal.
If it's getting really hot and ur fan isn't spinning, then you've got a problem lol.
