modem problem

i have a pentium III with an ASUS CUSL2 mobo
i put windows xp on it and now my modem wont work, my modem is detected and shows up in device manager. i have AOL and it will just stay at the screen saying initializing modem and not do anything else. i used the same modem in my other computer with xp, athlon 2700, asus a7n8x mobo and it works fine. why would it work in the one computer but not the other, would it have anything to do with the motherboard or what else could it be. please help.

Try putting it in a different slot.
