Hello.

I just wondered what in your opinion is the best music sequencer
software for music production currently available?

At the moment I have Cubasis VST 3.0. I've had it for a couple of
years and am looking to get something better.

My main problems with the version of Cubase I have is that it doesn't
process audio events in real time. For example if I have an audio
track imported into Cubase and I copy it so it is a few bars long, if
I then change the pitch of the composition, and I then try and copy
more of the bars afterwards it is all out of sync. If I try and
import more audio clips to a different channel, it is also out of sync
with the rest of the composition and I have big problems. It is
difficult to explain this but I think you may understand what I mean
if you have used this version of Cubase. If you don't I made a post a
while ago on this which Mark replied to, and he explained it better
than I can what the problem is. The reply is at the following
location: http://tinyurl.com/7c8zr

I am looking for something fairly easy to use, well designed, with
good compatibility, and is very solid and bug free. And as stated
above something that can process audio events in real time. I am
running Windows XP.

When I first started dabbling in music production it was one of the
really old Atari computers with the dongle thing and an ancient
version of Cubase. On one of the first PCs I had, I tried Cubase and
Cakewalk. They were really the only decent programs available at the
time.

Today, there seems to be a far greater variety of choice for music
production. E.G. Logic, Cubase, Cakewalk, Acid, Reason etc.

What would you recommend though as the best, and the bare minimum that
will do what I want without any issues?

Thanks for any advice.

John

It may not be a software sequencer but.... I have tried many top software
sequencers and always go back to my trusty old Akai ASQ-10 (it is the
sequencer section from the MPC-60) made by Roger Linn. It is like an
instrument and always gives me what I need to create and fast.

I agree. I always go back to the mpc when it comes to sequencing.

Since you are already familiar with an old version of Cubase, the new SX
2.0 or 3.0 would be a logical choice. It is a top-notch pro program that
will probably be able to handle just about anything you throw at it.

ok, since at this point people are naming not what they think is the
best, but their favorite :)

I'll have to say:

Yamaha MMT8

(not the best, but my favorite. I could rule the world with that and
an EMAX)
