What does everyone think of the new Dell Latitude D620?
As a bit of background I am currently running an HP dv1240us, which was one of the earler 14.1 widescreen models on the market. It is used as my primary machine most days, often seeing 6-8hrs/day of use. I absolutely love it, but I want something with more battery life. I currently have the double-capacity 12-cell battery for this laptop, which gives me in the neighborhood of 4.5-5 hours of useable runtime.
The D620 is very similar in terms of features/technology and footprint, although it has a modular bay which my current HP does not. I am also curious if the 9-cell primary battery option "hangs out" of the normal laptop footprint, like my current battery, and if so how much.
The thing I really liked about the Latitude series was the D-Dock docking station. I don't know if they still offer it, or if it still has this feature, but you could fit a standard desktop PCI card in there. Ideal for SoundBlaster, PCI 256 MB Video Card (quite dated now), SATA/RAID controller.
How soon will you be buying a new laptop? Do you need the Dual-core? If you do the AMDs are due soon.
I certainly don't need the dual-core. The 1.7GHz Banias I currently have is far more than I need. I'd love something in an ULV in a larger form-factor than the ultraportables. Alas...
Seems the 9-cell sticks about an inch out the front on the Dell, probably liveable.
It also seems the D/Dock is available for this model, which has a PCI slot. Which is nice as was said, for running video/etc. This laptop is supposed to be available with a mobile nvidia quadro as well, but the Dell website doesn't seem to let me configure it so.
