Hi,

I am a big fan of Microsoft games and have purchased Age
of Mythology which I find great. I am now thinking to
purchase Age of Empires 2 Age of Kings but I am not sure
whether or not it will work on Windows XP. I do not want
to purchase Age of Empires 2 Age of Kings to then find
out that it does not work on XP. Please could you e-mail
me back to confirm whether the game Age of Empires 2 Age
of Kings works on Windows XP. I will be ever greatful for
a response. Thank you.

From a very greatful Microsoft game player, John.

Yes, absolutely no problem with Age Of Kings or the Conquerors
expansion pack running on XP - I've been doing so for at least
2 years now.

Me too but I'd qualify that by reminding everyone that XP is very heavy on
memory compared to Windows ME so if they don't have sufficient RAM installed
they could have problems. This goes double for users of AOL like me.

Quite true. 256MB RAM is about the barest minimum for an XP machine.
512MB+ is when running something like AoK.

My Age of Empires II: Conquerors works fine except for when I try to open the window/screen for Diplomacy, to give tributes, etc. That causes the entire game to crash, no matter what updates and patches and fixes I install for the game. Instant crash.

I'm at my wit's end. The one campaign I want most to play in the game is the Battle of Hastings (my ancestors fought in that battle with distinction!), but that battle requires me to give a tribute early in the game, so I can't play it!

I have Windows XP, updated, and I have 4GB of RAM, so plenty of that. In fact, to spare you my stats, I have an almost brand new PC installed by a professional, so my system should vastly surpass any necessary requirements for the game.

Any ideas, anyone, please?
