Does anyone have an old Tascam TSR-8 that can be stripped for parts? I
need a table reel assembly: the table reel is the part that fits over
the shaft of the motor and holds the tape reel as it turns.
I posted earlier in another thread thinking I needed the entire motor.
As it turns out I only need the table reel assembly.
The part is discontinued by Tascam. They sent me a replacement from one
of their current models, but the shaft is about 1/4" too long so it
will not work.

Take it to your local auto shop and have them put it on a lathe and trim
it down.

How did you get the old one off the motor? I was trying to adjust
mine, and it's stuck. I've heard nasty stories about crowbars.

I took them both off. One was easy. The other was a chore, but I was
able to pry it off with a twisting motion using a flat-bladed
screwdriver. As it moved up the motor shaft, I kept sliding something
underneath the screwdriver to pry against.

A gear puller from the auto parts store makes this much easier.

Cheers.

Ouch! Hope you didn't bend the shaft.

You give me too much credit for strength. I think I'd have a hard time
bending a steel shaft with a twisting screwdriver Anyway, I was
prying the reel table upward and off the shaft, not against the shaft
itself. The danger was not in bending the shaft, but in damaging
whatever was holding the shaft inside the motor.
