I have the chance to buy a used Presonus DCP-8 8 channel compressor (without
the optional meters) for $250. I would use it for a home studio that I'm
putting together. Even though right now I'm trying to focus on getting the
best couple of SD microphones and nearfield monitors I can afford, I'd like
to be able to use very gentle limiting between the mic pre and the AD
converter. I'm not into using compression when recording, I would adjust the
threshold so that the signal would *rarely* reach it, just for protection
against overloading the converters. I don't care for the DCP-8 automation
facilities. I already have Swissonic mic pres and
converters and a RME card. I did search the Google archive as well as the
web (including Presonus website) for some information regarding the DCP-8
(specs, reviews, ...) and the only thing I found is this review from SOS
magazine:
Does anyone have any experience with this processor? Is it clean/quiet
enough for the job? I would be recording jazz groups, mostly bands I play in
(I play the double bass) and some other musicians friends of mine.
