I'm trying to figure this one out. The Yamaha is the live sound board,
but it doesn't have record outs. Could someone give me suggestions on
how to set this up? I'm guessing it will have to be done using a bunch
of mic splitters sending a signal to each, however this seems a bit
pricey. What are my options?

The MG16/6FX has insert jacks on the first 8 channels. You can use the
insert jacks to send the signals to your Firepod by using a TS cable
inserted to the first click. (inserting the cable fully will disrupt
the signal from continuing through the channel strip.)

I assume you read the responses to your question posted 3 days ago...

Or wire those insert cables so that T and R are shorted together and you can
insert them all the way. Inserting half way is an invitation for them to
fall out. Mic splitters work best but are more expensive. Still, this box:

at $225 / 4 chs is really not too expensive and is the absolute best way to
go as you can use external mic pre's that are better than the ones in you
mixer. And it you make custom cables for all the channels, the mic
splitters may not be too much more $$.

Happy recording!

Does it have inserts? If they aren't in use, you can steal those.

However, a set of splitters is _really_ a wonderful thing and will save
you a lot of headaches if you do this often.

In a pinch you can double-mike everything. That used to be standard
operating practice for years.

So I've been thinking this through and have some further thoughts:

My previous answer concerning insert jacks was based upon my
experiences doing similar recordings with a MOTU 828. The 828 only has
2 preamps, so I needed to use the mixer's preamps and send a line-level
signal to the MOTU. Since the 8 preamps in the Presonus Firepod are
undoubtedly better than those in the Yamaha mixer, a mic splitter would
probably yield better results.

The Proco unit looks great. If money is tight, you could pick up a few
of the Art SplitCOM boxes. At $25 per channel, there's no reason not
to.

Yes, this answer was posted to my last post, however, I use my sends
for compressing vocals and such. It didn't seem like the best solution
as I'd have to give up these sends.
