I currently have 256MB of PC2100 memory. Would I be better off buying another 256MB of PC2100, or 512MB of PC2700 (the fastest my mobo supports). In other words, is the speed difference between 2100 and 2700 worth ditching the former and buying 512 of the latter? Thanks.

It depends on your FSB. If your running 266fsb then another 256mb pc2100 would be fine. If your running/will be 333fsb you would do better getting pc2700. Keep in mind DDR RAM will run at slower than its rated speeds, so just because your motherboard only supports up to pc2700 speed doesn't mean you cant throw some pc3500 in there and run it at pc2100 speed.

Agreed- check your bios and what your FSB and CPU are running at, you might just be better getting another 256 and going with that. But either way the 2700 is backwards compatible so if you plug it in- it will match the other ram but might cause problems in DDR mode.
