Is there any way to remove the tube (and its associated 'warmth') from the
audio circuit of the Aphex Tubescence preamps to make the useable?
(This came up in a conversation the other day...)

Yes, and you lose about 10dB.

BUT, if you open the thing up, you'll find that there is a feedback pot
on the "tubessence" circuit that you can crank up or down for more or
less effect. Just adjusting that might be a start.

The Aphex 1100 preamp is pretty damn clear. I'm assuming you're referring to
other models?

I'm thinking that it's either a 107 or 207 (It's not my preamp).

I believe that this is a107- the ones that were marketed a few years back
as having 'real tube warmth'.

Right. Just making the point that the Aphex 1100 is not in the same league as
the lower 107, 207. Some folks seem to think that they are all similar.

Aphex makes at least one other premium preamp that comes as eight remote
controllable pres. I don't recall the model number at the moment.

Ty Ford

Yes, just like a DBX 786 compared to a 386. Or A Focusrite Red compared
to the Platinum series. The same in name only.
