I've tried looking in the manual, but that doesn't explain it very well. I'm wondering if I can use 3 HDD's in a RAID 0 array. Following is what I have:

- Asus A7V8X mobo
- Athlon XP 2700+
- 512 MB RAM
- 2x WD Raptors
- 1x Maxtor 40 GB ATA133

I've already got the 2 Raptors in a RAID 0 array, but my Maxtor drive is just collecting dust now. I'm wondering if I can add that into my array. I know that I would have to reinstall everything and I'm ok with that as long as I get better performance. I just don't know if I can use all three drives in a RAID 0.

You can use three drives in RAID-0 (although I don't know if your motherboard would support 3 drives) but they will have 3 times the storage of the smallest drive and if they're not the same speed (model) performance can decrease drastically.

RAID should generally only be done using identical drives.

You didn't mention what model Maxtor you have but I'm betting adding it into your array with the raptors would be a very bad idea.

Alright, then I won't try adding it to the array. Thanks for the advice. I'll try just adding the drive for more space, keep the OS and programs on the Raptors.
