If you burn DVD's just for data storage, then the cheaper DVD-R format will be a good choice. It's the first format established for DVD recordable. On the other hand, if you burn DVD's for movies and videos, then you should go for DVD+R format which has more features and newer than the DVD-R. To have the best of both worlds, why not consider a dual format burner that can burn both DVD-R and DVD+R format of discs. Of course, dual format burners are more expensive than single format ones, but they eliminate any compatibility problem.

You can copy DVD movies, but you need some special software to do that. For a 4X DVD burner (currently the fastest), it takes about 15 minutes to completely burn a 4.7GB DVD.

DVD X Copy will allow you to copy a DVD movie onto a DVD-R.

Also, there are no "special features" of DVD+R. DVD+R and -R are similar in technology but the format (the reflective surface) is different, that's all.

There're many advantanges and features of DVD+R/W over the DVD-R/W which I'm just too lazy to write them all here.

Read the following documents which show:

<A HREF="http://www.dvdplusrw.org/video/comparison.html" target="_new">the advantages of DVD+R/W over DVD-R/W for video</A> and

<A HREF="http://www.dvdplusrw.org/pc/pccomparison.html" target="_new">the advantages of DVD+R/W over DVD-R/W for computer</A>.

Aw c'mon, that's like asking Bill Gates why Windows is better than Linux, plus it's very old (an advantage of dvd+ being 2.4x speed vs. dvd-'s 1.x?). Most of the other "arguments" refer to compatibility, and if I remember correctly I read that dvd-r has a slight edge on compatibility on set top players, it was like 89% vs 85%, sorry I can't provide a link, I'm not sure where I read it. In any case, at this point there's really no difference 'tween - and +, I think dvd- media is cheaper, but I could be wrong.
