I'll install it in a couple of days once I'm finished exams. Then I'll tell you guys how it goes. I know the Sony drive is slightly faster, but it was also a good $140 more expensive up here in Canada. The LiteON is the best bang for the buck up here in Toronto, Canada.

Congrats! Have fun with your new DVD±RW.

We would really like to see your personal benchmark result, since there's no review of LiteOn DVD±RW in the web so far.

Ok, I just installed it...It came with a DVD+RW which unfortunately isn't compatible with my DVD player. It writes DVD+RW at 2.4X. I made a back up of all my documents onto the DVD+RW. It turns out that the LiteOn is in fact a Sony DRU500A(X) (the A and AX are the same drive but with different firmware). The two drives are identical so if you like the DRU500A(X) you'll like the LiteON. Everything is as I'd expect it...so far. I have a copy of DVD X Copy Xpress (converts DVD9 movie to always fit on DVD5 media) so I can't wait to buy a few DVD-Rs or DVD+Rs and "backup" DVD movies.
