need help ASAP

am looking into upgrading my PC with a dvd writer. there are a lot of descriptions for dvd writers - DVD-RW/R or DVD+RW/R or DVD +/- RW/R - what do these mean? also i am looking for a good but inexpensive kind of dvd writer. any suggestions? i wanted this to be done asap. thank you...
