I just got a new power supply (fortron 460pfn) The question I have is that the plug for the main board (k7s5a) doesn't fit. The box says it supports AMD Athlon xp. any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Dan
You must be doing something wrong then. That PSU is most definitely compatible with that board. Find the 20pin connector (it will be the largest connector) coming out of the PSU and plug that into the slot near the top left edge of the mobo (between the backplate and the CPU slot).
Thanks for the reply. I figured out the mistake that I made when ordering psu. The one I ordered is a 24 pin not a 20 pin. From what I have read I can order a 24 to 20 pin converter. I just have to find one. So much for thinking that all ATX psu's are the same. Thanks again for the help, Dan
Is <A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?description=17-104-975" target="_new">this</A> the PSU you have? If so it should be ATX, and should have the 20pin connector.
Hi Again,
That is the psu that I have. It has two pins extra on each side of the plug. It does say for AMD on the top of the unit. I am still trying to find a adopter plug that will work. I'm not sure but it might be for a board that has two cpu's.
OMG Newegg skr00d the p00ch on the discription, no? Nowhere in the discription does it meantion it's a server power supply! They do mention a couple boards, but you have to LOOK THOSE BOARDS UP to find out! Not only that, but Tyan's main page for those boards doesn't mention it either, you have to either search for more information or COUNT THE PINS IN TYAN'S PICTURE!
To add insult to injury, Newegg now carries the Fortron 530W power supply with the STANDARD connector for the same price!
