This might be an obvious question. I'm hoping to to record some music from a synthesiser to my PC. The synth has a digital out. The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-8INXP. I know the onboard sound isn't the best, but it has an option for an S/PDIF input, which I thought I could use to record. Would there be any difference in the digital recording quality between this, and say, spending a lot more cash on a proper sound card?

thx

The quality on an expensive card will be higher but unless you are really serious about it its not worth it. beware tho, my mate got a £200 sound card (Audiophile) and its so good quality it makes all mp3s and even cds sound crap!
