I really wantto know if the sound of Portico 5012 is the same with Neve
1089 and 1272?
i've received the following from josh Thomas
Thanks for your interest in Rupert Neve Designs. The initial response
from the early users is that the Portico is every bit as good as the
classics and then some! Like the best of the older units it utilizes
transformers on both the input and output section and single sided
amplification throughout.
I hope this helps clarify things, if you have any additional questions
please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Everything that Rupert Neve designs (or oversees the design of) is
going to sound different from other similarly functional designs.
Otherwise, why design something new? The point with the Portico
gear is that it's available brand new and you don't have to pay
someone to fix something old and package it so that it's in a usable
form.

Another unit to consider is the Great River NV-series preamp. It's a
modern take on the Neve topology and sounds really great. I bought one from
Mercenary Audio a few months ago for a project and have been extremely happy
with it. Character in the right ways, clarity in the right ways... just a
great mic preamp. Not crazy expensive either, and you can buy a single
channel for 1/2 the price of the 2-channel unit.
I second Jeff's opinion , Either Great River [ i have both ]
There is never a though of whether it sounds good or not ,
solid & satisfying , if something seems wrong , you're moving to the source
or the mic !
Hope the new neve is reasonable price so we can all try it !
regards Greg

Amen, but note that the original MP2-MH is now a special order only item
and no longer in regular production. Sadly. I feel that was the most
cost effective preamp offered, when one wants actual quality of sound
and is not seeking to spend the least.

Isn't the deal with that is that they are redesigning the MP2-MH to be
similar in looks and features to the NV series? ( adding the meters etc? )
