Upgrading from Vista to 7.
Followed the windows instructions, burned the iso onto disk and ran from windows by right clicking and running as administrator.
Got to 66% of the last step... transfering files settings and programs.
got an unable to continue message, reverting to old (vista 64bit) operating system...
the error code was to the effect of;
"WerFault.exe - Instruction at 0x772f3892 referenced memory at 0x00000000"
Since Microsofts own explorer 64bit doesnt work properly with the windows web site, I decided to post here and ask a real expert! you guys!
Im not running the best system, but certainly should be adequate....
HP Pavillion a6755f. stock for now.
Phenom 9550 quad core at 2.2
6gig ram
Radion HD 3200 chipset on mobo*

I suspect that since I had to uninstall the ATI catalyst software and drivers prior to install (then got a unable to run windows aero error message) that the install may not like the gpu on the mobo?

either way, the goal is to run 7, any suggestions would be appreciated...

Upgrade installation? Boot to the Windows 7 DVD and install Windows 7 RC as a fresh installation.

Yeah, always much cleaner and hassle free if you format and do a fresh install. If you have a second hard drive, I'd suggest backing up any important data. Then format your existing drive, insert the Win 7 disc, and do a completely new install.

That's how I did it, and it worked flawlessly. :) Really enjoying Win 7 so far. In fact I splurged and ordered a couple Win 7 Home Premium Upgrade discs yesterday so I can officially upgrade our systems when the time comes.

And by the way, when you install Internet Explorer in Vista, there is a 32bit and a 64bit version. You have to use the 32bit version to access Microsoft's update sites and such. It should already be on your system.

As far as Win 7 and your integrated video. I doubt that's really the problem. Win 7 actually installed with my nVidia GTX 260 card, and Win 7 installed it's own drivers which allowed me to run max resolution (1920x1080) without the actual nVidia drivers. Of course you'll want to actually install your ATI drivers so you can play games and stuff, but Win 7 seems to be pretty comprehensive with it's installer.
