what is the better(less problematic)way to get windowsXP installed on a brand new and clean harddrive? windows98se combined with the windowsXP upgrade or the full version windowsXP, does it make a difference? (most important, does it make a $100 difference?)
It depends if that Windows 98 SE is a full version or an upgrade. If it's full, then you can upgrade to either version of Windows XP (Home or Pro). So, get the upgrade version.
When installing on a clean hard drive, when you start the Windows XP install, it'll ask for a previous version. Just use that Win98 CD for your ticket to a WinXP install.
