I am trying to run my game on XP but I keep getting this
message. (I have 1 gig of memory installed.) "Microsoft
golf requires 32 mb of virtual memory to run. Please try
closing any open applications or increasing your virtual
memory settings." Has anyone else had this problem and is
there a cure?

Geo,

Most likely the issue you are seeing is the counter-intuitive "your system's
too good" issue. Most new systems default to use larger amount of virtual
memory than older games can cope with. Microsoft recommends that virtual
memory be set to a minimum size equivalent to 1.5 times the RAM on your
computer, and 3 times that figure for the maximum size. For example, if you
have 1 GB of RAM, the minimum size is 1.5 GB, and the maximum size is 3 GB.
But we have seen issues with some older games if your virtual memory setting
is higher than 1 GB.

To test this theory, you can lower your virtual memory setting. Go to
System Properties through Control Panel, click the Advanced tab, then click
the Settings button in the Performance box. This will bring up the
Performance Options screen, click the Advanced tab, then the Change button
in the Virtual Memory box.

Make sure to note what your Virtual Memory is currently set to so that you
can change it back if you so choose.

In the Virtual Memory screen, choose the button for Custom Size, set your
Initial Size to 256 MB and your Maximum Size to 512 MB. You'll have to
restart your PC to implement these changes, and then you can try Golf 1999
again and see if you get the error.

Hope this helps.
