I am tired of not being able to build my own laptop.
This whole thing has turned into a monopoly and those big guys, that shall remain nameless in this post, are holding on to the last corner of the market that still remains untouchable by the DIY community.
I am from this day forth setting out on a mission to build my own 19" laptop. I don't care what it costs at this point, but I will never pay four or five thousand dollars for a top gaming rig that is truly worth about half that. I would, however, spend 8 grand to build it myself.
I will build the case myself if need be, and mod an existing motherboard... whatever it takes.
If anyone else has some suggestions, please leave 'em here , send a private message or email me at ndmxbot@yahoo.com.
I do not want a barebones system either, meaning start to finish, DIY.
I will be making a website detailing this project as it progresses, to be named later.
I am a little lost as to why you would want to build the case yourself.
This could be the coolest thing ever, but I am having a hard time understanding why you wouldn't go with a barebone system to start with.
The problems of finding a motherboard, power supply and all that yourself, then buying just 1 of everything is going to kill you on the price.
I had one web site that sold whitebox, OEM notebook parts. They had several cpu/screen combo. But sadly to say I havn't found the link, its been 6 mo or so since I was on there site.
The main issue is that you want to be able to buy any part you need to do a repair. Cases, drives, lcd, converts ..... So you don't have to send it for any repairs. Just order parts and off you go.
After dealing around with all of the plastic case parts that crack, my next will be a cast Al or mag.
