How do you know if a power supply is starting to die? What are the signs you have a bad one?

exesive heat, voltage drops, voltage increase, high voltage fluctuation. pc locks up for no reason, restarting, shuting down abruptly. sometimes you have to unplug it to get it to turn on again.
