Installation notes:
DirectX 8.1 is already included with Microsoft Windows® XP. If you are running Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, Windows Me, or Windows 2000, download the appropriate version for your system at right. If you are running Windows 95, you should use the DirectX 8.0a runtime
DirectX 8.1, which provides the latest update to the DirectX technology, will overwrite any earlier versions.
DirectX 8.1 will ensure trouble-free installation and includes the latest USB game controller updates in addition to the features provided by DirectX 8.0.
Because it is a system component, the DirectX 8.1 runtime cannot be uninstalled after installation without reinstalling your operating system.

Ignore the last paragraph, it CAN be done :)

But I cant see why they didnt put it on their downloads for XP, I'd say use the 2k version if anything rather than the 9x version.

If you need to uninstall DX, you can grab a util from my site to do it, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST
