I have a friend who is looking for a basic notebook for word, music, e-mail etc. They are not interested in gaming at all, but they would like to have oodles of hard-drive space (around 200gig).
Now, my suggestion was that they get an app$1000-$1200 (aud) notebook and buy an external harddrive to go with that as they don't need their music while they are out and about. They don't plan on taking the notebook out of the house so battery life isn't a priority. Am I on the right track with this idea?
You cant go wrong with an external hard drive, I have a 250gb Maxtor and its been going strong for about 4 years now and ive even had the thing drop of a kitchen table onto hardwood floor. (I dont recommend trying that though)
I suggest getting something with firewire and usb2.0 aswell, having the option of connection type can be handy but not neccessary.
I also use the external drive to backup everything on my laptop, something i would recomend.
