I lost the thread :(
But my little Caig Survival Kit, an electric screwdriver and a long
morning of re-seating things fixed the problems.
Just for the record, many loose screws (this thing was purchased within a
month of it being released) and I suspect it might have been the power
supply to board connectors because they had a lot of wobble in them. I
soldered them as suggested! Also did a complete cleaning and so forth.
