Here is where I am heading - I'm looking for a business/gaming machine around $1,500-$1,700:
Inspiron E1705
my question...this will cost me between $1500-$1700...should I spend extra cash on the video card upgrade:
Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 [Included in Price]
256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory [add $64 or $2/month1]
256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS [add $194 or $6/month1
...and buy the NVIDIA card (which is a pretty good mobility card).
Or - should I buy the ATI upgrade and boost the proc speed:
Intel® Core™ Duo Proc T2600 (2.16GHz/667MHz/2 X 1MB L2 Cache) [add $260 or $8/month1]
Intel® Core™ Duo Proc T2500 (2GHz/667MHz/2 X 1MB L2 Cache) [add $146 or $4/month1]
Intel® Core™ Duo Proc T2400 (1.83GHz/667MHz/2 X 1MB L2 Cache) [add $49 or $1/month1]
Intel® Core™ Duo Proc T2250 (1.73GHz/533MHz/2 X 1MB L2 Cache) [Included in Price]
I'm really torn here - any advise is appreciated.
...also, is there really a huge difference between these two types of RAM:
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz [add $153 or $4/month1]
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz [add $185 or $5/month1]
- now, I know you see here the difference is only $30, so I should go for the 667mhz RAM, but DELL has a special on the 533MHZ RAM and it's actually a lot cheaper (free upgrade from the 1GB). So, I am still inclined to go with the 667MHZ - I think I read somewhere that the DUO Procs really need the extra speed (for some reason). Any advice?
I've thought about buying a macbook (or any other type of laptop) - but this Dell just seems like such a better deal. Feel free to try to convince me otherwise. I am open to all suggestions.
I just read a comparison of the M1710 and the E1705 on Anandtech.com according to their benchmark tests if you want to do any gamming you really need to go with the NVIDIA chip on the E1705. The ATI won't run anything released recently.
The problem with Killernotebooks is their starting price for the 17'' is out of my price range ($1,500-$1,700).
