Hi, Newbie question...I have a second machine identical to the one detailed below albeit with 2x256Mb sticks of PC2100, when the memory settings are set to agressive (the fastest, one would presume) it comes up as single channel mode. I thought that 1) dual channel was faster & 2) you needed 2 modules to do it...am I just being thick (dont answer that one!) Any assistance would be appreciated!

XP2100+, ASUS A7N8X Deluxe, 1Gb PC2700,
64Mb GF4 Ti4200.

Go find your motherboard reference booklet and make sure that you have the chips of RAM in the correct DIMM slots. Sometimes you have to have a pecuiliar configuration in order to enable Dual DDR. And in answer to your questions, yes you need at least 2 chips for Dual DDR to be active, and yes it's faster. On my Ledtek nForce2 board I managed to increase my memory benchmarking scores by 50% and double my 3d mark score once I added another 512 chip to enable Dual DDR. Your results, I'm sure, will vary. Hope this was helpful!

The "aggressive" settings the mobo will establish are not always stable, and you may do better off setting it to "user defined" and slowly easing the settings forward to see what will work best for you. It would help a little more if you could tell us the brand and the model of the RAM you have (For instance, I can tell you that my TWIN 1024 Corsair DDR400 runs happily at 5-2-2-2 1T timings at 200MHz, but that doesn't necissarily help you! ).

Thanks, the info does help and if I can get it running Im hoping the performance increace will be as good. As for my RAM, I have 1x Crucial 512 & 1x Run of the mill stick (not sure on manufacturer. BIOS reports memory timings as 6-2-2-2-2T @166Mhz (in aggressive mode)does this help?
