1. How good CD writer is LG CD-RW 52/24X/52X (GCE-8520B) – in general and specially when it comes to burning different kind of protections? Is LG good choice if you want to burn protected files etc.?
2. Lite-On seems to be quite well liked: how does LG compare to Lite-On? Is LG as good as Lite-On or in what way does LG “loose” to Lite-On? What does LG lack or is there something very bad about LG in your mind?
I like both of the brands you are considering....IMHO they are both top notch. I don't like sony because I had a 16X with them at one time and I burned so many coasters that I had to budget half of my income to buy replacement disks. Plus Sony's wouldn't play in my alpine car stereo. Anyways...I've had an LG for quite a while and it rawks. My other computer has a liteon 48X and it rawks. I'd go with the best priced one.

I've got a lite-on 52X CD-RW, and my first impression was how much noise it made to my older Ricoh 16X burner.
I don't if thats the case with all CD-RW running at this speed or if its just the lite-on.
I have a slightly older 16X LG Burner, No probs whatsoever, supports all the different burning techniques (eg: Raw Writting) required to "Back-Up" copyright protected discs. even overburnt a few times without a hitch. great drive...writes to everything i have thrown at it including supermarket brands.
