HELP ME SPEND MY MONEY.
I'd like to track my soloist album with different instruments, on Logic
or Protools, and need "THE BEST OF...":

MICS?
414? Blue? Audio-Tecnica?

PREAMP
API? SSL? NEVE? MILLENIA? GRACE?

A/D?
APOGEE? RME?

D/A ( for Mixing down)
ALESIS MASTERLINK? NEW TASCAM? TAPE? BUSES TO CHANNEL STRIPS? OR JUST
HIT "BOUNCE" ON LOGIC OR PROTOOLS?

HOW ABOUT ALL IN ONE SOLUTIONS LIKE:
APOGEE MINIME?
METRIC HALO?
RME?

THANKS GUYS

Stick with Nady and Berringer. They're the best names in the
business and you can outfit your entire studio for under $200.

Of course, you may wish to seek a more qualified opinion ;-)

You can never go wrong with a Neumann U87. But you can spend less
money. Your choice.

All good choices. But like microphones, if you really want to optimize
the result, you need to match the source, microphone, and preamp. Not
enough info, and honestly, you can never say enough in text to justify
a really solid recommendation. All sorts of music has been recorded
with just about every preamp and microphone.

Nothing wrong with Apogee or RME, but you can do better. Mytek,
Benchmark, Lavry are all good choices. Whether you record the output
of your D/A or mix "in the box" you still should have a good D/A
converter so that you can really hear what you're recording. By the
way, what are you using for monitors, and are they installed in an
acoustically great space so your $5,000 monitors really sound better
than the $50 speakers attached to your computer?

Decent approach that can save a few bucks, but none of those companies
are known for making great mic preamps. Not bad, though. If you want
to simplify your hardware, you can do OK with a combination mic preamp
and A/D converter.

Yes, but if you come into the newsgroup and ask people for equipment
recommendations without even mentioning the style of music or the
instruments you're recording, you should expect a lot of kidding.

Beginning to look trollish when 2 new posters through Google and g-mail
offer such help to one another. (First four entries in thread)
