Is there a limit of amount of RAM which Windows 98 can use.
I read from the Web that <b><i> Windows 98 cannot use more than 320 MB of RAM. </b></i>(It can see upto 2 GB of RAM)
It is also commonly said that <b><i> You can never have too much RAM.</b></i>
How will you satisfy both the statements at a time?
If Windows 98 cannot use more than 320 MB of RAM, then what about WinXP & Win2K???

The rule of thumb is to keep it under 512MB for Win9x systems. You may encounter problems if you exceed that amount. I'm sure Toejam has the link to the detailed information somewhere...

Arrow is correct. WinXP and Win2k can effectively use all the ram you would
care to install.

For Win 98, 512mb as they have said is the way to go with no problems at all, thats what I'm running with Win 98 SE. However if you want to run more check out the workaround posted in the Jan 15 posting at; www.emulators.com/secrets.htm

512 Mb no problem
640 Mb no problem
768 Mb no problem (some people do get a few errors though)
more than that and you supposed to get loads of errors according to others

I tested my 98se with that much ram and nothing happened (couldn't test over 768 Mb because I got no more slots for ram (only 3) and all the sticks I got are 256 Mb or 128 Mb.

What I find weird is the ram usage, the first day I get like 99% ram usage, then it drop down to 20% or less (that's just on irc and idle non-stop). Now on irc I see this...

(OS Of Choice: Windows 98 (4.10 - 2222)) (Running For: 1day 10hrs 32mins 35secs) (Memory-Usage: 142/511MB (27.79%) (<font color=red>¤¤</font color=red>¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤))

Sympatico now 5/5Gig limit a month and the price goes up. Or 10/10Gig for 70$! Get another ISP!
