Hello,
After upgrading to Windows 7 from Vista my IE 8 internet connection is very slow to completely freezing up. It will run fine for several minutes and then the slowdown occurs. I have to close with task manager, the "x" and "stop" do not affect it. When I go to Safe Mode with Networking IE 8 works very well --as it has done from day one with Vista. I have done searches about this and know others have had issues but there does not seem to a clear answer. I have Webroot with Spysweeper for anti-virus. Thanks!!

Safe Mode loads fewer system drivers. This could be the result of a 'bad' driver not being loaded in Safe Mode that is otherwise loaded at Win 7 startup.

Be sure to go to the System or motherboard product page and download the latest Win 7 LAN driver. Or go to the LAN mfg. onlin driver page and download the latest driver. List the system specs icluding LAN manufacturer for help.

One trick that might work is if you go to the device hardware list and delete your net hardware...reboot and windows will detect it and reinstall the drivers...maybe you just need to do that refresh.

Tucsondivots,

Have you ensured that all of your drivers are up to date and certified for Windows 7? For example, you might want to check your chipset and Ethernet drivers as well as your BIOS revision.

Should you require additional assistance and guidance, Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams.

Jessica,
I tried to post that Microsoft support helped me with this issue but it did not take. The problem turned out to be Webroot. When I uninstalled it and installed MSE everything is running fine.
Thanks.

My problem with slow internet following the upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista is resolved.

I saw a thread somewhere that mentioned a possible problem with Webroot Spysweeper. I disabledWebroot on the start setup and the internet did not freeze up after an hour of use. I then deleted Webroot and installed MSE. I have been running very quickly and trouble free for several weeks.

I do not know what in Webroot caused this but it definitely was the solution for me. FYI, Windows 7 has performed very well. We had to force shutdowns at least 5 times per week with Vista when the computer locked up. Since installing Windows 7, the computer has not locked up once (it has been over 3 weeks).
