RME ADI-8 Pro Mod?

I was happy with my RME ADI-8 Pro for getting audio in and out of a
Digi 001 setup @ 44K untill I did an unscientific comparison of the
Kurzweil Rumour's A/D vs the RME's.

I prefered the Kurzweil's conversion.

I've heard of a modification out there for the RME. Anyone have this
work done? Pleasing results?

Based on some work using Kurt A's JW mod'd ADI-8 Pro DS I'd say Jim's
work is well worth the money.

RME Adi-8Pro is a difficult item. Modifications are not easy because the
pads are very thin and narrow. If you are not very skilled in soldering, be
aware of that.

For Scott: did you really bypass the 2 input caps for each channel? I gotta
try that...

Yes, since it's _always_ being used with a preamp that has output blocking
caps anyway. No reason to put more caps in series.

Go out and listen to the Prism stuff, or the higher grade Lavry gear.

You might want to watch out for that. Most modern A/D chip's inputs are
voltage referenced to 1/2 the power supply, at 2.5 volts. Blocking caps
are needed to keep this bias out of the input connectors and then out
of the device that's feeding it. Running 2.5 volts up the ass of a mic
pre may not cause a problem, but if it's direct coupled, or if the
coupling caps are reversed, it could be one.

The mods include Wima MKP-2 250 polyprop film cap bypasses on the
Panasonic FM caps which are replaced. The opamps are LM6172's.

Have fun, remember, they don't work if you let the smoke out!
