Like many others i'm having some issues with my installation of W7, each time the installation either takes hours to load the dialogue box or simply doesn't work at all. I have tried to install it through a flash drive as well, and have had the same results. I have some hypotheses on what could be causing the problem, but to be quite honest i'm lost at this point.

My hard drive is partitioned one being 450gb, the other being only 20gb, my motherboards firmware may also be a problem as i can no longer successfully restart the system, but instead must shut it off and restart it manually.

Any help would be appreciated.

In BIOS. set the first boot device to DVD and boot to the Windows 7 DVD. Format the Hard drive and install.

In BIOS set the first boot device to DVD, insert the Win 7 DVD into the tray and save and exit.

To install Windows 7 using the Custom option and formatting the hard disk
To format your hard disk during Windows 7 installation, you'll need to start, or boot, your computer using the Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive.

1.Turn on your computer so that Windows starts normally, insert the Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive, and then shut down your computer.

2.Restart your computer.

3.Press any key when prompted, and then follow the instructions that appear.

4.On the Install Windows page, enter your language and other preferences, and then click Next.

If the Install Windows page doesn't appear, and you're not asked to press any key, you might need to change some system settings. To learn how to do this, see Start your computer from a Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive.

5.On the Please read the license terms page, if you accept the license terms, click I accept the license terms, and then click Next.

6.On the Which type of installation do you want? page, click Custom.

7.On the Where do you want to install Windows? page, click Drive options (advanced).

8.Click the partition that you want to change, click the formatting option you want to perform, and then follow the instructions.

9.When you've finished formatting, click Next.

10.Follow the instructions to finish installing Windows 7, which include naming your computer and setting up an initial user account.

I have gone through the normal perimeters of a regular OS installation, even going as far as to use 2 mediums(DVD and Flash) to have a successful installation, i have selected the USB/DVD as the main boot device, my problem is that it takes forever to get to the first dialogue box(if it ever appears) and even then it refuses to install successfully, is there any kind of device driver or firmware that would need to be downloaded?

Or is it simply normal for a W7 installation to last several hours? Mind you this isn't even an upgrade as i'm willing to reformat, it simply doesn't give me that option because it takes literal HOURS to get from one dialogue box to another.
